When your RHO puts up the
K on the first round, he
gives you a chance to make your contract. Firstly, you must duck this
trick. You are going to lose a diamond anyway, but ducking the first
diamond keeps RHO on lead, and he can't lead a heart through your K.
You're going to lose 2 hearts anyway on the bidding, since the A of
hearts pretty much has to be offsides, so you must find a way of
getting to dummy to take the club finesse. The trick here is to play
for a partial elimination. We'll assume that RHO returns another
diamond (no play is better for him). You win, and now draw exactly
two rounds of trumps, keeping a trump in dummy. You now play a low
heart and cover whatever card LHO plays, forcing the lead to RHO. He
can cash his heart, but as long as he is out of trumps, he is now
endplayed. He can either lead a club himself, or give you access to
dummy. This hand was played correctly by Lornezo Lauria on BBO.
