Things Mike Does for Fun
- Card Games - I've been playing real
card games since I was about 5 (closer to 2 or 3 if you count UNO).
It's one of my family's primary activities, and a big part of my life
today.
- Board games - I play board games as well, although not as much
anymore as I did when I was in college. I hope to play more
frequently in the future. Here I have
documented my favorite board games and a quick review of each of them.
- Word Games - I enjoy both Boggle and Scrabble, although I don't
play either very much anymore in person for lack of opponents. I am
intermediate level at scrabble (meaning I would get my ass kicked by
anyone good), but I'm apparently very good at Boggle. Read about my Boggle Challenge
- Computer Games - I spend much of middle and high school playing
computer games of various sorts, in particular turn-based strategy
games like Civilization. At this point in my life, I have a random
desire to play one of these games once every few years that will last
for a week or so, and then go away. In college I spent a lot of time
playing Starcraft, as well as a few FPS games. If you don't know what
FPS stands for then you're probably much cooler than I am.
- Sports - I grew up playing baseball, but I learned how to play a
number of other sports well both in my youth and in college. I ran
track in high school all 4 years, and I still run recreationally
today. My other favorite sports are ping-pong, volleyball, and
ultimate frisbee, but I also enjoy and am at least competent at
basketball, football, racquetball, and tennis.
