Citation In Astronomy

This program is designed to provide the student with a background in various areas of astronomy. The citation grants recognition to students for developing knowledge in a discipline that may expand their employment opportunities or nurture an interest that will extend over a lifetime. The opportunity to complete this citation complements a major in computer science, education, journalism, or the life sciences. For those with a recreational interest in astronomy, this citation provides a basis for continuing education and personal leisure.

Citation Requirements (15-16 credits):

Lower Level Requirements
  • Completion of ASTR 100 (Introduction to Astronomy) or ASTR 101 (General Astronomy) and completion of ASTR 220 (Collisions in Space).
Upper Level Requirements
  • Three courses from among the following:  ASTR 300, ASTR 330 ASTR 340 ASTR 380. A grade of C or better is required for all course applied toward the citation.

Substitution of alternative courses requires the approval of the citation advisor. This citation is not open to astronomy, physics, or physical sciences majors.

Procedure for Earning the Astronomy Citation:

  • Make an appointment with the Astronomy Citation Advisor in order to fill out the required paperwork for the citation.
  • Complete all course work with a grade of C or better.
  • Any revisions to your program must be approved by the Astronomy Citation Advisor.
  • Receive recognition on your transcript after graduation.
