Department of Astronomy Graduate School Application Process

To facilitate the review of your application, you must submit the Online Graduate Admissions Application by the December 1, 2007 deadline for Fall 2008 admissions. Note: The four letter program code for Astronomy is ASTR. The Department of Astronomy accepts applications for the Ph.D. program only.

Application Deadline Extended to January 15, 2008

Send a copy of all your application materials (detailed below) by email, fax, or postal mail to the Department of Astronomy. All full and complete Fall 2008 Semester applications received by January 15, 2008 will receive full consideration. The Graduate Entrance Committee will begin evaluating applications after the January 15, 2008, deadline.

Items of Special Note:

• The Department of Astronomy accepts applications for the Ph.D. program ONLY (no exceptions).
• GRE Regular and the Physics Subject test scores are required.

Checklist of Required Application Documents:

• Statement of Purpose or Essay
• Three (3) Letters of Recommendation
• GRE Regular and Physics Subject Test Scores (University of Maryland institution code is 5814).
• TOEFL, TSE, TWE Test Scores
• Two (2) copies of your official transcripts (translated in English). You must have an overall grade point average of 3.0.
• Other materials such as curriculum vitae, resume, or other papers.
• International Student Applicants must submit a letter of finances.
• The application fee is $60.00. If paying by check, please make it payable to "University of Maryland". If paying by credit card, submit payment through the Graduate School's application website.
