Title:  "Probing the Near-Nuclear Region of Hale-Bopp: Results from a Stellar Occultation"

Comet Hale-Bopp occulted a 9th-magnitude star on UT 5 Oct 1996, providing an excellent opportunity to study a region of this comet that otherwise would be difficult to observe due to the far geocentric distance. We will present the logistics of the observation, which required more than half-a-dozen telescopes scattered across the Western U.S., along with some information about the nucleus and deep inner coma of Hale-Bopp that was obtained from our preliminary analyses.
