(THE UNIVERSE AT 2 < z < 5)

Each author MUST submit his or her manuscript electronically. Authors should use the AIP LaTeX style file which is available via anonymous FTP from ftp.aip.org/ems/tex/macros/proceedings/6x9 called aipproc.sty.

Please consider using the following example and style files available at ftp.astro.umd.edu/pub/october as a starting template for your manuscript:

• Text File - example.tex
• Figure File - examplefig.eps
• Figure Style File - epsfig.sty
• Table Style File - longtable.sty

Please remember to submit your "Transfer of Copyright Agreement" to October Conference, Department of Astronomy, University of Maryland, College Park, MD 20742. This is required for all submissions.

Before submitting, refer to the "Checklist For Paper Submission" below.

Allowed Manuscript Length

• Invited Papers: 10 pages
• Poster Papers (including oral contributions): 4 pages

Deadline and Submission

The author must send the finished manuscript electronically, with figures incorporated, as soon as possible after the meeting, but no later than 15 December 1998. Late submissions will not be accepted.

Please indicate the title and number of the session in which the contribution appeared.

Electronic Submission

E-mail a LaTeX and postscript copy of your manuscript (and any encapsulated postscript figures) to: Eric.P.Smith@gsfc.nasa.gov

Please identify the LaTeX copy by using (in the subject line of the E-mail) the last name plus the first name initial of the first author, e.g., holts.tex. Any EPS files should be identified in a similar way, e.g., holts_1.eps, holts_2.eps. Authors with multiple papers will need to indicate this as well, e.g., holts1.tex, holts1_1.eps. You can also submit a LaTeX version of the text with appropriate space left for production-size illustrations that are submitted in hard-copy form by post.

It would be a good idea to send us (at the address below) one paper copy of the manuscript, as you expect it to appear in final print. Remember to include a completed Transfer of Copyright Agreement form.

• Get the AIP LaTeX style file at ftp.aip.org/ems/tex/macros/proceedings/6x9 called aipproc.sty. A style file is available for figures called epsfig.sty and one for tables called longtable.sty.
• Prepare your paper following the sample manuscript file from ftp.astro.umd.edu/pub/october called example.tex. The sample figure file is called examplefig.eps.
• Page numbers should not be typed on the manuscript, but written at the bottom right corner of each page in a light blue pencil (which will not be reproduced by photocopying) so that we can keep the pages in proper order. (Note to aipproc.sty users: the style file does not produce page numbers. Please follow these same page-numbering instructions when sending a hard copy of your manuscript.)
• Check to be sure you have included an abstract (less than 200 words).
• Prepare any figures or illustrations at production size, if they will not be provided in encapsulated Postscript (EPS) format. Arrange the figures to be as close to the referring text as possible, preferably at the top or bottom of a page.
• Reference listings should follow the post-1990 ApJ style for journals, books, and conference proceedings. References should be listed in their order of occurrence in the manuscript (not alphabetically), using the [#] notation in the body of the text. (Note to aipproc.sty users: the \cite{} command will produce the [#] numbering automatically, but you must manually arrange your final reference list in the proper numerical order.)
• Check your paper carefully, remembering that the page limit for invited papers is 10 pages and that for others is 4 pages.
• E-mail a LaTeX and postscript copy of your manuscript along with any computer graphics in EPS format to: Eric.P.Smith@gsfc.nasa.gov. Be sure to identify the conference session in which the contribution appeared, and be sure to follow the file-naming conventions in the subject line of the E-mail, as described above.
• All authors must provide us with a signed copyright waiver. Please also send at least one copy of your manuscript with illustrations at production size to:
