- Turn on the telescope by the flip switch mounted on the pier.
- There are no RA and DEC locks. You can just grab and aim this telescope.
- The focus knob is the silver knob located at the eyepiece.
- When finished, the telescope must be stowed in a horizontal position with the counterweights on the East side of the telescope. The counterweights should be just slightly higher than the telescope. Failure to stow the telescope properly will result in damage to the telescope when the roof is closed!
Common Problems
- not tracking at all -- make sure power switch is on
- not tracking at proper rate -- make sure rate setting on hand controller is set correctly (ie, sidereal most of the time, unless you are observing the sun, moon, or other like comets).
Use
Generally, this telescope is used during Open House or other public events. There is a piggyback back mount (somewhere) that can be put on the telescope if you have your own 35mm SLR, but currently (Fall 02), the tracking is not so reliable.
