Dr. A'Hearn, a Distinguished University Professor, is the PI both for the Deep Impact mission in NASA's Discovery Program and for the Small Bodies Node of NASA's Planetary Data System. His research for many years has emphasized the study of comets, supplemented with studies of asteroids. Observational studies encompass all wavelength regions, from EUV to radio, and make use of facilities around the world and in orbit. Theoretical studies are focused on the physical and chemical properties of comets. He supervises several graduate students and his past graduates have had successful careers in observational and theoretical astronomy.
