Airports

There are three airports which service the area: National, BWI, and Dulles. National is very difficult to drive to, but easily accessible by the metro. BWI is easily accessible by car (just follow signs from either the parkway or I-95), but difficult to reach using public transportation (it's only available during certain times of the day on weekdays). Dulles is several miles west (outside of the Beltway) in Virginia. It is fairly easy to reach by car (although it's a long drive), but there is no public transportation to it. Of the three, BWI tends to have the cheapest fares, although some airlines run specials on flights into National.

All of the airports can be reached by shuttle. There are many different door-to-door shuttle companies in the area with a wide range of prices. Typically, fares will run between $15-$30 depending on where you start from and which airport. If you're going to take a shuttle to Dulles, you might want to consider taking the metro and then catching a shuttle from there; it saves quite a bit of money.
