Okay AstroTerps, we have a lot of work to do! With Maryland Day coming up, we have starting making plans for the day’s events including the Toys in Space program and the on-campus Solar System. Once we get supplies, we will definitely need help putting everything together. We can also look forward to more trips starting with the Smithsonian and IMAX visit in March. Expect more details by the end of the month.
6 students and E. Warner met in CSS0254. Welcome back to school! Our first project to start off this semester will be the Mars-Scape Display Board. We will begin putting it together this week, probably on Wednesday the 24th, but check your email for the definite date. At the first meeting of the semester, AstroTerps discussed possible fun events for the year, including camping, museum trips, speakers, and skiing! We are still looking for new ideas, so if there is something you are interested in doing with the group, feel free to contact one of the officers with your idea. Also, we may be holding elections for a new vice president. If you are interested, send Matt Zagursky an email.
This week’s meeting was brief. The AstroTerps mainly discussed upcoming events, such as our Final Frontier movie night, which will be held on December 7th, upcoming open houses at the observatory, and an exciting presentation by Dr. White about radio astronomy which will be held during next week’s usual meeting. We hope to see you there.
11 students and E. Warner met in CSS0254. Astrophotography and advertising were the main events on this past week’s agenda. After observing an Iridium flare, the AstroTerps began their meeting with a brief overview for November 8’s Mercury Transit. We are still looking for volunteers, so if you are interested, please contact us. Also, the T-shirt contest is finally over. The AstroTerps will be picking the new AstroTerp T-shirt design at the next meeting, on November 9th.
6 students and E. Warner met in CSS0254. After more than a month of meetings, the AstroTerps have finally declared Thursdays at 6 to be the regular meeting time. Our first Open House at the Observatory was a success. The AstroTerps are looking for volunteers to help set up for the Mercury Transit on Nov. 8th. In preparation for the event, we will be painting signs after the next meeting. No artistic ability required, though it helps if you had finger painting in kindergarten.
11 students and E. Warner met in CSS0254. Meeting was kept short due to high interest in Crab Fest. Discussions focused around potential AstroTerps events, in particular observatory visits. Volunteers are needed for several of these events, including Observatory Open House (Oct. 20th) and Mercury Transit (Nov. 8th). Please sign up if you are interested in helping! October 17th will be the next meeting. It will be held at the observatory so come if you are interested in learning how to use the equipment.
12 Students and E. Warner met in CSS0254 for a very long meeting. AstroTerps discussed fundraising ideas and events in more detail. The group is looking for a new team t-shirt to replace the old, out-dated one. If interested, please enter the design contest. The deadline is October 19. Be creative, but please no Super Mario Brothers! Next meeting will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2006.
14 Students and E. Warner met in CSS0254. Meeting began with the election of this year's new officers. 1 student, 2 faculty and E. Warner met in CSS0254. Discussed how to better advertise existance of AstroTerps and Observatory. Also discussed First Look Fair (we need people to sign up to help man the table). Next meeting will be in 2 weeks. I'll talk about astrophotography so bring your cameras!
4 students and E. Warner met in CSS0254 then headed over to the observatory. The three telescopes in the East Bay were used to look at the moon, M42, Saturn, Mizar/Alcor.
4 students and E. Warner enjoyed 3 pizzas. (Well, we couldn't eat all of them, so the leftovers were given to the SDU students attending the SDU starparty later that evening.) Elizabeth talked some about the club and then talked about observing satellites.
E. Warner, tried to kick start the AstroTerps by holding a meeting, the first one in over a year! Only one person attended - previous president T. Wasserman who handed over the cashbox, extra tshirts and passwords.
