Topography of Kitt Peak (IN PROGRESS)
First, we need to locate the data file containing the requisite X,Y,Z data (KittPeakTopoData.txt), and read it into MATLAB. In this case, since our data file is just three columns (of equal length), we can use the "load" function.

Now you can't just plug in a "surf(x,y,z)" command and immediately get a nice surface plot. The reason for this is in the formatting of our data. When doing surface plots or contour plots (see previous introductions), we're generating square arrays of data. Here we've just got a list of values. To illustrate this, we can do a simple 3D scatter plot:

Since it's clear from above that we need to rework the data, the way we can do this is to use "Delaunay Triangulation" --- which will essentially build little triangles between all of the scatter plot points from the last step.

With all of these little constructed triangles, we can then actually start to create true topographic maps!
