1997 - Telescope Dome
1997 was the year comet Hale-Bopp was around. I spent a lot of
time at the telescopes at Lowell Observatory (where I was working)
observing this wonderful comet, so decided to make a telescope to
memorialize it. The dome represents the 42" Hall telescope at Lowell.
The telescope is pointed at a little comet, hanging overhead. The
skunk is a comic addition, although one night there was a skunk
in the telescope compound.
This ornament is made almost entirely of toothpicks. (Yes, making a
hemispherical dome out of straight toothpicks was difficult.)
