Read Chapter 4.1, 4.2, 4.4

1. Problem 4.2.E As part of this calculation, show that the mass of an atmosphere that extends to infinity is roughly the mass of a slab of air at its zero altitude density with thickness H, the scale height. State your assumptions as to why this calculation is approximate and give a rough estimate of the uncertainty.

2. Problem 4.12.E Also show, using equipartition of energy, that light and heavy gas molecules put the same pressure on the walls of a container.

3. Problem 4.13.E Compare your results to any that you find in the book.
