Astro 310: Fall 2009 Observing Information

A note to anyone using hotmail: hotmail is returning my emails as undeliverable, so you need to contact me via your umd.edu account or something other than hotmail.

Lab 3 WILL be held tonight, Friday, November 20th! Please remember toarrive at 6PM rather than the usual 8pm, and dress warmly! Carpool as much as possible and park as close to the observatory as you can.

(Updates between 5PM and 6PM.)

First, look at the doodle poll and indicate the days for which you are free to attend the lab. Check back often and look for people who can attend on the same 2 or 3 days as you, and contact them via email to create your group. Once you have the group established, contact me (Holly) to reserve your nights.

Please sign up for two or three sessions by emailing me (hsheets), at astro.umd.edu.

We will only be using the 20" for this lab, so only one group can attend each session. If your group signs up for a time, the group MUST attend that session. If any problems arise with your chosen time, contact me at least 48 hours ahead of time, so that other groups have the chance to use the time slot instead. If you are NOT the first group to select a time slot, I will still list you as an alternate group for that night. It's possible, since you are signing up for multiple nights, that the first group listed for a night has already gotten their data, and so the first alternate group will be able to attend the lab instead. Please check the schedule frequently, as it could change often!

I will make the final decision whether there will be observing each night and post it above, but for your edification, I provide a link to the clear sky clock for our observatory. Pay close attention to the row of boxes marked "Cloud Cover". They're marked off in hours (across the top, on the 24 hr system, local time). The bluer the box is, the clearer the sky will be.
