BIMA SONG (Survey of Nearby Galaxies)

This key project is an ongoing effort to map 44 nearby galaxies in the CO (J=1-0) line emission using the BIMA interferometer.  Using the higher resolution afforded by the interferometer, we hope to study molecular gas on size scales of a few hundred parsecs.  The distribution of molecular gas in the galaxies, its relationship to spiral arms, dust lanes and bars, its role in star formation activity and nuclear activity are among the many topics of interest to the colloboration.

My fellow accomplices are:  Michael Regan (DTM-CIW), Michele Thornley (NRAO - Charlottesville), Tamara Helfer (NRAO - Tucson), Tony Wong (UC-Berkeley), Douglas Bock (UC - Berkeley), Stuart Vogel (U Maryland), Andy Harris (U Maryland) and Leo Blitz (UC - Berkeley).

Pretty pictures... to come soon (sorry for the dryness of this page).
