And the Winner is ...
This was from an e-mail during March Madness 2002. Go Terps!!!!
Based on my disastrous picks in the past, I decided to make my picks based
on mascots and a strict set of selection rules:
The "who wins" rules are as follows:
- Animals always beat people, except supernatural people (e.g., Demon
Deacons, Blue Devils).
- Animals always beat acts of nature (e.g., Waves, Golden Hurricanes,
Golden Flash).
- Acts of Nature always beat people, including supernatural people.
- When it's people vs. people:
- Supernatural people beat non-supernatural people.
- USA teams (e.g., 49ers, Cowboys) beat foriegn teams (e.g.,
Fighting Irish, Musketeers, Aztecs).
- If both teams are USA teams, the team closest to a place I have
lived wins.
- When it's animals vs. animals:
- Amphibians beat birds and mammals.
- Birds beat mammals.
- Cats beat dogs.
- If same category, smaller animal wins.
- Plants always lose.
You would not believe how long this method took to develop. Much longer
than just picking based on whether I had heard of the team or not.
Unfortunately, my final result is the Terps losing to Duke in the Final
Game.
