Optical Synthetic Spectra of Elliptical Galaxies

Abstract

We present optical (3000-7000 A) synthetic spectra from our initial population synthesis models of elliptical galaxies. The integrated spectrum from our 16 Gyr, solar-metallicity model is shown to be remarkably similar to a spectrum of NGC 4472. In addition, the agreement between the broad-band colors and Lick spectral indices measured from our synthetic spectra and observations of early-type galaxies is comparable to that attained by the models of Worthey (1994).
