Postdoctoral Position

Soot Absorption Cross Section Measurements

Kansas State University - Physics

A postdoctoral position is now open to perform experiments to measure and understand the absorption cross section of soots formed from detonations. This work will be done in the near

infrared (NIR). Methods will involve dispersion of soots as aerosols and as suspensions in liquids with known refractive index. Then transmission of light through the sol will be measured.

These measurements will be augmented with both static and dynamic light scattering measurements to characterize the size and morphology of the suspended particles. Corrections

for the medium refractive index will be developed. Studies of the effects of source, size and morphology will be performed. There will be strong theoretical support via collaboration with

another scientist. Applicants should have strong experimental skills in optics, problem solving, and understanding experimental results. This position could start immediately, and funding is

ensured to the end of calendar 2024.

More information can be obtained from C. M. Sorensen at sor@phys.ksu.edu.

Postdoc position in New Zealand

Greetings from Wellington, New Zealand.

I have a 2-year postdoc position available in my group to work on electromagnetic scattering by non-spherical particles. If you have PhD students/postdocs in your group who could be interested, please pass them the attached information.

For details see https://www.astro.umd.edu/~elsnews/2023postdocposition.pdf

Thank you in advance!
