CARMA Memorandum Series #49 Single-Dish Aperture Efficiency Measurements at CARMA Stephen M. White and B. Ashley Zauderer Univ. of Maryland September 2, 2008 ABSTRACT We describe the process by which single dish aperture efficiency measurements are carried out for the antennas of the CARMA array. The basis for the measurements is explained and the practical details are described. Related topics such as the approximations used at CARMA to calculate atmospheric opacity from weather data, the analysis of sky dips to actually measure atmospheric opacity, the model for lunar brightness temperature and effective primary beam sizes are also discussed.
