Space and Science Policy for a New Generation
Speaker: Dr. Ashlee Wilkins,
Professional Staff,
U.S. House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology
Abstract: Federal science and space policy directly shapes the United States’ astronomy research enterprise. Much of that enterprise has been in turmoil over the last year. In this talk, I will discuss my own perspectives on the current science policy landscape and my career path to this position from the UMD astronomy program to a Congressional authorizing committee. I will offer highlights of ways that scientists can pursue policy-focused careers, and I will also discuss how scientists at all career stages can engage with the process of developing and implementing policy even as they remain focused on a research career.
