I have a broad interest in the physics and chemistry of the interstellar medium and have published widely on various aspects of photodissociation regions, interstellar dust, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon molecules, HII regions, outflows from asymptotic giants branch stars, stellar feedback, star and planet formation, infrared spectroscopy, and molecular astrophysics. My research is highly interdisciplinary, spanning astronomy, astrophysics, molecular spectroscopy, physical chemistry, solid state physics, and surface sciences. I was the project scientist of the HIFI instrument on the Herschel Space Observatory, and project scientist of the Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy (SOFIA). I have coordinated several international scientific networks, in particular in molecular astrophysics. Over my career, I have supervised some 50 graduate students for their PhD and some 40 postdoctoral fellows.
