Velvety Black-tyrant. Our last Brazil endemic of the trip, this bird
was seen at Corcovado. There are a number of black birds in the Rio
area; the ID for this one was based on the red eye (see second photo),
the crest, the white underwings (only visible in flight), the bill
shape and bristles (indicating flycatcher), and habitat. It turns out
this is a female because it has rufous on the throat (not obvious in
the photos). |
