Slide 20 of 120:
Frigatebird,Magnificent1.jpg

Magnificent Frigatebird. This was our first new species of the trip. Frigatebirds are aerial "pirates", preferring to steal food from other aquatic birds rather than finding their own. They spend almost all their time soaring; we saw them virtually every day. This individual is male, by virtue of its red gullet pouch (which it puffs up to enormous proportions during breeding displays). Photographed from Sugarloaf.
