1998 - Japanese Lantern

1998 - Japanese Lantern

In 1998, Carrie's friend, Chuck, from Hawaii, invited us on a trip to
Japan. He speaks fluent Japanese, which makes it much easier to get
around, so we took him up on it and had a great time. We stayed in
Ikaho (a small town a few hours from Tokyo) which is famous for its
hot springs. We also got to see the three day harvest festival, and a
number of other interesting sights. To commemorate this trip, I went
in a very different direction and made Japanese lanterns.

It is made of paper, wood and wire. (The wire is wrapped with paper so the lantern can be glued to it.) I rigged it so that a Christmas light is fixed inside so the lantern is lit up when on the tree. I was very happy with the way it turned out.
