1996 - H.M.S. Victory
After I got my PhD in 1996, we decided to take a break and go to
England for a few weeks. There was a lot to choose from for ornaments
on that trip, but I chose a topic I enjoy -- ships. H.M.S. Victory was
the command ship of Admiral Nelson during the battle of Trafalgar (a
major victory for the British against the French and Spanish).
The body of the ornament is just a block of wood, with toothpicks
providing the details. It is rigged with thread and has cloth sails.
