Astronomy Gear Swap
The UMD Astronomy Observatory Remains Closed
Fall 2024 Update: The UMD Astronomy Observatory remains closed to all public outreach activities.
Post-swap Report
Well, huge thanks to Kent, Pete, and Guy for coming out with some great stuff. I hope it was successful for them. There was not as much traffic as I had hoped, but thank you to those who did make it out! Not sure if we will do one of these again. If we do, it will be for fewer hours!
******************************************************************************************
WHAT
An astronomy gear swap to help raise money for the UMD Observatory. The Observatory will be selling books, lantern slides, glass film plates, and other misc hardware. In addition, we are inviting amateurs in the region to bring in astronomy stuff that they want to swap/sell.
WHERE
UMD Observatory lecture hall and if the weather-permits, outside on the concrete pad east of the hall.
WHEN
Saturday 10 November 2012. Setup for sellers is between 9:30-10am. Buyers should come between 10am-4pm.
WHO
Any person with astronomy gear (hardware, books,...) to sell is invited to participate. There is no cost to participate. When you sell your stuff, the proceeds are yours! However, we are hoping that the extra traffic will generate more sales of some of the UMD Observatory stuff as well and those proceeds will go into the UMD Observatory fund.
And of course, any one looking for astronomy stuff to get, well come on out! Cash is probably preferred choice of payment. The UMD Observatory can also accept checks for its stuff, but no credit cards.
HOW
Sellers should email Elizabeth with your intent to participate and a list highlighting some of your items (and photos if possible!) which will be posted here. If you can, please bring your own small table(s) as we have limited table space.
