Image on homepage: JWST MIRI imaging of the edge-on starburst galaxy M82 and its powerful large-scale galactic wind driven by intense star formation and supernovae. The image is dominated by emission at 7.7 microns from polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which are tiny dust grains that emit in the mid-infrared. The sensitivity and spatial resolution of JWST, together with the galaxy's close proximity (~12 million lightyears), reveal the complex structure of the wind in unprecedented detail.
