GenAI in Education: Practical Strategies for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment
Speaker: Emily Berman, UMD Teaching and Learning Transformation Center
Abstract: Generative AI presents both opportunities and challenges for UMD instructors and students. Rather than asking whether students should use AI, this workshop focuses on how instructors can intentionally design learning experiences that promote curiosity, critical thinking, and disciplinary expertise.
Join the TLTC and your colleagues for an interactive workshop that will explore how generative AI is reshaping higher education, with a particular focus on fostering critical thinking and designing assignments that support meaningful student learning. Together, we'll examine strategies for mitigating inappropriate AI use while identifying productive ways to incorporate AI into instruction. We’ll evaluate AI use cases and share what's working (and what's still challenging) in our own contexts.
