Portrait of Ian G. Richardson

Ian G. Richardson

Research Scientist

I obtained my BSc and PhD in Physics from Imperial College, London, and joined UMd in 1988, subsequently working on various co-operative agreements with the Goddard Space Flight Center in the Astrophysics then Heliophysics Divisions. My research interests include solar energetic particles, cosmic rays, solar wind structures (interplanetary coronal mass ejections, corotating interaction regions, and long-term variations), the drivers of geomagnetic storms, and energetic particle acceleration at comets and in the geomagnetic tail. This work focuses on the analysis of archival observations from spacecraft including IMP 8, ISEE 3/ICE, Helios, ACE, Wind, SOHO, STEREO and Parker Solar Probe. I was the American Geophysical Union Secretary for Solar and Heliospheric Physics in 2010-2014.
