Portrait of Tilak Hewagama

Tilak Hewagama

Associate Research Scientist

Tilak Hewagama is a spectroscopist and planetary scientist. Research interests include the physics and chemistry of solar system atmospheres and surfaces. These environments are probed using ground- and space-based facilities. Tilak is also involved in the development of new instrumentation designed to gain new insights into these planetary environments. An area of current interest is the lunar mineral composition and regolith hydration state. Carefully designed compact spectroscopic imaging instruments will enable measurements using handheld or rover-mounted assets. This work pertains to the Artemis program and will aid future in situ resource utilization operations of future astronauts in establishing habitats.
