Research work
We have built an ultra-wideband spectrometer, the Zpectrometer, that
is currently installed on the Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia.
The Zpectrometer is designed to interface with the Ka-band receiver (26 - 40 GHz).
The fabrication was completed in the summer of 2006.
My specific task in the fabrication was to build a four-channel
downconverter that takes the signal from the Ka-band receiver, splits
it four ways, filters it into four separate bands and then outputs
four signals with a band stretching from 4 - 8 GHz. The output of the
downconverter is then fed into 4 correlator backends.
The Zpectrometer is now online with the most recent observations being
taken in February 2008.
